Hong Kong’s universities show significant improvement in global rankings, particularly in data science and Artificial Intelligence programmes

10th April 2024 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong’s universities have experienced a notable improvement in their global rankings, with more than 50 per cent of subjects offered showing an upward trend, according to the latest league table published by education information firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The city has been recognised as the world’s most improved location for graduates’ performance as perceived by employers.
For the first time, Hong Kong’s four public universities were included in the rankings for data science and artificial intelligence programs. The University of Science and Technology (UST) emerged as the top local institution in this field, securing the 10th position worldwide.
Four subjects offered by Hong Kong’s public universities achieved top 10 rankings, an increase from the previous year’s three, as QS compiled rankings for 16,400 subjects from over 1,500 universities worldwide.

Among the eight public universities in the city and Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, a total of 204 subjects were ranked. Of these, 91 subjects improved their rankings, 35 subjects experienced a decline, while 51 subjects maintained their positions from the previous year. Additionally, 27 subjects entered the rankings for the first time.
